We Are Called To Teach!

Now, that we have reached someone who was lost, our job is not done yet. Wait, I thought everything was quite dandy and fine, what do you mean there is more? Once, someone has come to know the Lord, it is our responsibility at the very least, to plug them into an outlet to learn more about the scripture and God Himself. A person that has just started a relationship with the Lord needs to start building a foundation if not the enemy will start to shake them. Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." We need to be willing to teach, plug into other teachers, and be taught ourselves.

For some of us we are called to teach and be in a mentorship rule. You do not have to have a degree or be licensed pastor to fill this role. When I was a senior in high school, I was mentoring a seventh grader and was able to influence his life through God alone. You can fill this same role. I think to some degree we all are at one point going to fill this role some their calling is meant to be a teacher/mentor.

Not every situation will result as us filling us that role though. It is our responsibility thought to help the individual to plug into someone or a church that guide them in their new relationship with the Lord. They cannot be left to try to fend the enemies attack on their own. This is when they are at their weakest and must start to build the strong foundation in the Lord.

Finally, in order to be able to teach others, we ourselves must be willing to be taught. If we are not are looking for new ways to learn and grow, how we can be prepared to teach others. We will become stale. By pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone, we learn new skills and knowledge that can be used to help others grow through their struggles and hard times.

In the end, I understand most of us do not have the spiritual gift of teaching. I do believe though that we can use that as an excuse to not be willing to mentor or help a young Christian in their walk. I challenge you to think of someone who is young in their faith to pray for them and to connect with them. Answer their questions or lead them to someone who does know. We are called to teach, whether that is in a small or big way.
